I’m Rachel. This is a personal blog focused on my life experiences, which mean everything from environmental issues I’ve learned about while traveling to personal essays about eating disorders. Nothing on here represents the opinions of anyone other than myself.
In my work life, I’m a journalist, and have a blog here dedicated to writing about journalism and commenting on news (with occasional cross-posting between this blog and that one). Currently, I’m a staff reporter and web editor at the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin. My beat covers Garfield, Columbia, rural Walla Walla and northern Umatilla counties, and I write about local government, schools, business, immigration policy and a lot of other things. I’m working to teach myself more about web design and data journalism.
I’m a 2013 graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, where I was the Editor-in-Chief for the Whitman Pioneer, our award-winning college newspaper.
In my less serious free time, I love skating for the Walla Walla Sweets Roller Girls, baking chocolate chip cookies, being a self-deprecating half-vegetarian, being outside and writing.
